Kirtland board picks new trustee

ROSCOMMON   ΜΆ The Kirtland Community College Board of Trustees selected a Roscommon man as the replacement for Patricia Webb, who resigned in September.

Edwin Pearen of Roscommon was chosen out of four applicants for the volunteer position by the board in a ballot majority vote.

Pearen graduated from Spring Arbor University with a degree in Health Services Management and most recently worked as a marine and snowmobile officer for the Roscommon County Sheriff Department before retiring in 2011.

Pearen said this will be his first time on a college board, but currently serves on a homeowner’s association and church council, as well as working with victim services with the Roscommon County Sheriff Department.

“It’s my interest in giving to the community,” he said. “I’m just a common man with common values.”

Pearen is married and has two sons and five grandchildren.

The other three applicants were Amy Knepp of Mio, Ervin Bell of Lupton and Lucille McCraven of Grayling.
