TWINING — The Bay-Arenac Intermediate School District approved a proposal by the Arenac Eastern school district to have ISD Superintendent Michael Dewey serve as an interim, part-time superintendent starting July 1, during its regular meeting May 21.

Under the agreement, Dewey said he would be responsible for working with the district’s budget and personnel issues, putting together the school board meeting agendas, and making recommendations for staffing and contracts. This agreement is good until December, he said.

Since the district is planning on hiring a full-time K-12 principal by mid-June, Dewey said the agreement made sense.

“I think right now with student enrollment and with a full-time administrator, it makes sense to have a part-time superintendent until the board determines what their future plans are going to be,” Dewey said.

Dewey said his hours at AE would vary from week to week, but would probably only be for a day or two a week at most.

“I could be there a day a week, or a day and a half, or a couple days,” Dewey said. “It could be as little as a half day a week to a couple days a week.”

The AE board submitted the proposal to the ISD April 23, and the board discussed it at a May 7 meeting with AE representative Richard Klender. The board had questions regarding Dewey’s workload and the length of time he would be needed, but ultimately agreed.
