STANDISH — The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward to anyone who comes forward with information regarding a dog found shot and killed on West Huron Road near US-23 in Standish on Dec. 29, 2011.

The dog, Haley, a 7-year-old golden retriever/cocker spaniel mix owned by Rob Rezler of Standish, reportedly had close range gunshot wounds above her eye and to a back leg.

The Humane Society is offering up to $2,500 for information leading to an arrest and conviction. It reported that Rezler said Haley ran off while they were playing on Dec. 27.

Jill Fritz, Michigan state director for The Humane Society, said she hoped the reward would bring someone forward with information about the crime.

“Anyone capable of harming an animal can be a danger to the community,” she said. “You don’t want to discount it just because it’s an animal. Those that harm animals can also harm people.”

Arenac County Undersheriff Don McIntyre said there are no suspects at this time.

“Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Sheriff’s Department,” he said.

The Sheriff’s Department’s phone number is 989-846-3002.
