How is it being spent? Townships put two-percent base grants to use

ARENAC COUNTY — Last May, nine townships received $6,023 base grants from the Saginaw-Chippewa Indian Tribe’s two-percent class-3 gaming revenue sharing distribution.

As the Sept. 25 deadline for the next round of grant application passes, here’s a closer look those funds are being spent, or were spent, in Arenac, AuGres, Deep River, Lincoln, Mason, Pinconning, Sims, Turner and Whitney townships.

Arenac Township is using the base grant from the Tribe to erect an outdoor billboard that will display township notices and meeting times to the public, with the remaining funds from the grant going to offset costs to improve Michigan Avenue.

Read more about Arenac Township's grant, along with the grant spending in the other eight townships in the Sept. 30 edition of the Independent. See pictures of the grant funds at use, as well.
