Gibson and Janz to appear in court March 23

STANDISH — Two Standish men accused of stealing a purse from a woman while she was shopping in a motorized scooter have a pre-trial hearing date set for March 23.

Joshua Gibson, 20, and Dale Janz Jr.,19, are set to appear in front of Arenac County Circuit Court Judge Ronald Bergeron.

Gibson stood mute at his arraignment hearing on Friday, Feb. 4. Janz waved his arraignment on Tuesday, Feb. 8.

The pair were arrested in connection with the alleged theft of a purse from a woman inside of Glen’s Market in Standish on Dec. 29.

According to a police report from the Arenac County Sheriff’s Department, deputies responded to a purse snatching at Glen’s Market at 533 S. Main St. The report goes on to say that a full-size white van driven by Gibson and Janz Jr. was followed by witness who was on the phone with central dispatch.

The witness then reported that the van was stuck in a ditch on Pine River Road, as Gibson and Janz Jr. reportedly fled on foot down Washington Street.

According to a statement by the victim, Roberta Carcio, 67, of Twining, she was shopping in her motorized scooter and was being followed around the store by a thin bald man in a black hooded sweatshirt. She added that as she approached the front of the store the man stole her purse.
