'Gemini' brothers to perform at Northeast Art Center

STANDISH — Twin brothers San and Laz Slomovits of the musical group Gemini will be having a family-friendly concert at the Northeast Art Center Jan 12.

According to a press release from the Northeast Art center, the show will include sing-alongs, folk tales, music from around the world, and hand motion tunes, with the highlight being their songs about childhood and growing up.

“It’s all children’s music,” said Gail Schmidt, Northeast Michigan Arts Council director. “They write all sorts of children’s music, and will play nursery rhymes to music, and will invite children up on stage to play instruments with them.”

The show should run approximately 45-50 minutes, Schmidt said, about the length of a school assembly. While it is the first time Gemini has performed at the Northeast Art Center, Schmidt said they have performed in the area as part of the Head Start program.

“I saw them perform for Head Start and thought they’d be great for our children’s series,” she said. “They are really gifted musicians, just wonderful.”

The Ann Arbor-based brothers play about a dozen instruments between them during their performances, and 2013 marks their 40th anniversary of playing together. The press release notes the pair has played alongside orchestras in Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Kansas City.

The show begins at 2 p.m., with doors opening at 1:30 p.m. Ticket prices are $3 for adults and $2 for children. For additional information call 989-846-9331.
