OMER — A forest fire called in at about 4:20 p.m. Sept. 17 was mostly under control a half hour in, according to Omer-Arenac Fire Chief Brian Leja.
The fire, located on Michigan Avenue north of the city, was called in by a local cabin resident who noticed a great deal of smoke. The Omer-Arenac Fire Department, and later the Standish Area Fire Authority, responded to the call and was able to get the fire largely contained.
The cause was unknown at this time, and Leja said it was going to take a lot of clean up work.
