Fire department unable to salvage two area houses

STANDISH — The Standish Area Fire Authority (SAFA) and Michigan State Fire Marshall were called out on two house fires early last week. On Sept. 16, the SAFA was busy when units were called out to a house fire (the second one in as many days) on Grove Road just after 11 p.m. and later received assistance from the Omer-Arenac and Sterling Fire Departments. The incident on commercial property, which is currently being rented out, was called in by neighbors and later reported to be unoccupied at the time of the fire. Firemen were on the scene until 5 a.m. Wednesday morning. No surrounding areas were damaged in the fire.

Hear more about this fire and one other one that occurred last week in the Sept. 24 issue of "The Arenac County Independent."
