STANDISH TOWNSHIP — A pole barn fire on Feb. 24 is being called a total loss by Standish Area Fire Authority President Doug Ireland after the structure and several items inside, including tires, oil drums, tanks and two semi trucks ignited at approximately 2 p.m.

“The only thing left standing now are the poles holding the tin,” Ireland said.

He says Michigan State Police Fire Marshall Mike Jenkinson of the Gladwin State Police Post is investigating cause of the fire, which was at the commercial trucking business, LaLonde Trucking, located in the 3700 block of Sagatoo Road.

The fire was closed at approximately 4:30 p.m. Ireland says mutual aid was extended by the Sterling Area Department and the Omer-Arenac Fire Department.

Consumer’s Energy assisted in extinguishing a fire on a nearby power pole that resulted from the original structure fire. The Arenac County Sheriff’s Office assisted in traffic control.

No injuries occurred.
