Euchre tournament fundraiser returns to Standish April 6
STANDISH —The second annual Wertz Warriors euchre tournament will be held April 6 at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Standish.
Colleen Irving, an event organizer said the tournament is a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Michigan. Registration is $20 per person, which includes lunch and one drink ticket.
Irving said the tournament is set up so players rotate from table to table and play with different partners each time.
“They keep their points from game to game,” she said. “They’ll have a score sheet that they’ll take from table to table with them, so they’ll have that and they’ll be able to keep their score as they go. Then they turn that in at the end and we’ll see who has the most points. There’ll be points for most euchres and loners.”
Cash prizes will be awarded to first- through fourth-place participants, Irving said. The amount of money awarded is to be determined.
“That’s going to depend on how many people we get,” she said. “I can’t determine that until I know how many play.”
According to Irving, seating is limited to the first 100 people who sign up to play. The event will include 50-50 drawings and door prizes. Irving said several gift baskets, meal tickets, oil changes and other prizes have been donated for the drawings.
Due to limited seating and meal arrangements, Irving said preregistration is encouraged. To register, or for more information, contact Irving at 989-654-3403 or Joe Guddoba at 989-942-4081.
The tournament is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., with sign-in beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The Standish VFW Hall is located at 3580 W. Huron Rd.
