I will be attending the corrections reform subcommittee meeting in Lansing on Wednesday to get more information on the closure of Standish Max, and the measures being taken to keep it open (California and Gitmo prisoners). The meeting begins at 10:30 a.m. and I will be updating the day's proceedings via twitter. To follow the meeting, sign up at twitter.com, and follow me at twitter.com/tim621. Video and photos will also be taken at the hearing.

Please post any questions you may have about the federal and state proposals below, and I will try to communicate them to the officials on the committee.

It doesn't make any sense to me that Standish Max is closing at all. We've been receiving imates for the last 2 weeks from the closing of Haiwatha because there doesn't seem to be any bed space for them elsewhere. How can we be closing when it seems the state needs to use Standish Max? Where are all these inmates going to go by Oct 1st?????

I am so concerned for Standish.... I hope that the CA inmates end up here. If the Gitmo detainees end up here, local citizens employed currently will be replaced by federal people, not the very people whose jobs we are trying to save. Please ask questions before giving your blessing on inmates that come with many strings...the least of which is that they are more dangerous and aggressive than you know: for example, here is one of many-

Khaled Sheik Mohammed, the self confessed mastermind of the 9/11 attacks and the kidnapping/beheading of the USA journalist Daniel Pearl.

Do we want this man less than two miles away from 4 day care centers and a school?
