AKRON-FAIRGROVE — Arenac Eastern finished its season on a high note, defeating Akron-Fairgrove 20-6 on Friday for its third victory of the season in eight games.

It's the most games the Eagles have won since a 4-5 campaign in 2005. But AE coach Mark Machulis feels the best is yet to come for his squad, which graduates just three seniors and had eight freshmen play out the whole season at the varsity level.

"It was a real good win for us," Machulis said. "It really made the whole season worthwhile.

"We had some goals set for this season: we wanted to play .500 ball, we wanted to keep everyone academically eligible all year, and we wanted to finish healthy. We came close on the first one, we didn't have anyone miss any games because of grades, and we had all 17 kids finally healthy at the end."

AE built a 20-0 lead and had to hang on at the end.

Caleb Whitney finished with 107 yards rushing on 14 carries and Morgan added 80 yards on 18 carries. Graham Morgan also completed 4-of-9 passes for 45 yards, with Nick Phelan and Joey Kramer each catching two.

Kyle Zobel had 10 tackles, Morgan added seven tackles and Austin Clark had seven tackles and recovered three fumbles.
