Drug and alcohol task force hosting town hall April 22
STANDISH — The Arenac Drug and Alcohol Containment Task Force is hosting its annual town hall meeting April 22 at the Standish Veterans of Foreign Wars post.
Lori Jacques, coordinator for ADACT, said the event will focus on narcotics addiction and the negative effects of prescription drug and heroin abuse.
“This year we have the Families Against Narcotics to speak,” she said. “There will be a panel of individuals speaking on different things. One can be a parent whose child is addicted to narcotics, and then there’s going to be a parent who has lost somebody to narcotics. Then, there will be somebody who’s recovering from narcotics.”
Jacques said about 75 people attend the annual meeting, but she is hoping for a larger crowd this year. She said the event will provide useful information to county officials, courtroom personnel, area agencies, students and parents.
“I think it’s really important to get our parents out there,” she said.
The event will get started with dinner from 5:30-6 p.m., followed by the program, which is expected to wrap up around 7:30 p.m.
Jacques is requesting that people RSVP to ensure enough food is provided for the town hall. For more information, or to RSVP, contact the Sterling Area Health Center at 989-654-2491 and ask for Jacques.
ADACT was established about seven years ago and is grant-funded, Jacques said.
