Drainage board to discuss bids for Whitney Drain improvements

ARENAC COUNTY — The Arenac County Drainage Board will receive bids for maintenance along the banks of the Whitney Intercounty Drain at its Friday, Sept. 16 meeting.

The meeting will take place at 10 a.m. at the Arenac County Building, located at 120 N. Grove Street in Standish.

According to Drain Commissioner Larry Davis, the drainage board does not have a set cost for improvements that need to be made to the drain.

“We are looking to fix some areas where erosion is becoming an issue along the drain,” he said. “We don’t have an exact amount for what we need to fix at this time.”

Davis said the board would like to wait and see what bids come in.

“We don’t want to put an amount on this project right now,” he said. “We are going to wait and see what happens at the meeting. Right now, we are just hoping we get good bids.”

Davis said the required work is not related to work being done by the Central Michigan District Health Department concerning the E. Coli spikes in the drain.

The Whitney Drain travels through Arenac, Ogemaw and Iosco counties.
