WHITTEMORE — Whittemore-Prescott put a difficult regular-season in the rearview mirror Monday and opened district tournament play with 61-39 victory over Indian River Inland Lakes.
The Cardinals, opening at home in a geographic district with no true host site, took a 33-23 halftime lead as Cory Durham scored 10 first-half points and Emily Forton added eight.
W-P broke the game open with an 18-6 run in the third quarter.
Durham led the Cards with 16 points and 11 rebounds, with Forton adding 11 points and Jordan Maxwell, in just her second varsity game, 10. W-P got 35 points out of Forton, Maxwell, Staci Ostrander and Madison Matuszak, who spent most of the season at the JV level.
The Cardinals (3-18) advanced to a 7 p.m. district semifinal contest at Hale on Wednesday. The winner will host Friday's district title game.
