Deer Acres holding car show

PINCONNING — The Deer Acres Storybook Amusement Park may still be closed for remodeling, but that is not hindering plans to hold a family fun day and car show there Aug. 3-4.

The event, called the Dog Days of Summer, features free admission, according to car show organizer Rick Spies, with the festivities kicking off Aug. 3 at noon, with concessions and vendor booths.

Starting Friday at 5 p.m. and running through Saturday, games and activities will be available for kids, such as arts, crafts, a limbo contest, and facepainting. At dusk on Friday, Spies said the park would be showing a family film on an outdoor screen.

“For the movie, bring a lawn chair or a blanket,” Spies said.

The car show opens on Saturday at 10 a.m., with vehicle registration open from 7-10 a.m. Spies said there no registration fee for vehicles, and three trophies would be given away for each of 27 classes Saturday at about 3 p.m.

Music is provided on both days by DJs, Spies said, with HyperTech keeping the music going Friday and Bob Steele covering Saturday with 1950s-1970s tunes.

Spies said while the event is free, the park is accepting donations for the Pinconning food pantry and for Camp Fish Tales.
