County building experiencing phone issues

STANDISH — Phone system problems at the Arenac County Building have made county employees hard to reach.
Chairman of the Arenac County Commissioners, Mike Snyder, said the county will begin looking for a solution to the problem as soon as possible.
“This is a problem we have neglected for a number of years in order to try and save money,” he said. “It’s to the point where we cannot receive voicemails or transfer some phone calls.”
Snyder said in order to save money for the county, the phone system has been neglected for around five years.
“We are at the point now where we can’t even add refurbished parts to our phones to make them work,” he said.
The problem the county building is facing comes from the system’s motherboard and hard drive. Snyder said now that those parts are not functioning properly, the whole system is having issues.
Snyder added that he guesses a new system could cost anywhere from $20,000 to $30,000 to install.
“We will be looking at our options in the near future,” he said. “We (the board of commissioners) have not looked at all of our options at this time.”
Until the phone problems are resolved, Snyder said those looking to contact the county building should keep calling until they reach someone.
“People are here and willing to help and serve the community,” he said. “So, keep trying to reach us and someone will answer.”
