STANDISH — Doreen Gilbert, 79, of Omer, was headed southbound on US-23 and went off the East side of the roadway near M-76, traveling through the parking lot of the BP Gas Station and party store, into the store, destroying multiple doors and windows and items inside.

According to City of Standish Police Chief, Garrett Salter, Gilbert was transported to St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish Hospital via Mobile Medical Response (MMR) and then transferred to St. Mary’s of Saginaw, where she was listed in critical condition. No other injuries occurred during the incident.

A possible medical condition may have be the reason Gilbert lost control of the vehicle, but no conditions have been confirmed.

MMR, the Standish Area Fire Authority, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police, Arenac County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police accident reconstruction team assisted the city police.
