STANDISH — After being postponed two weeks due to unseasonably warm weather conditions, the Battle on the Bay snowmobile endurance race scheduled for the weekend of Feb. 25 has been canceled.

Race officials and sponsors inspected the ice on Monday, Feb. 20 and found ice conditions to be unfavorable, according to a press release.

“Conditions were found to be less than favorable on the ice where the races were to take place,” said Frank Cloutier, spokesman for the Saginaw-Chippewa Tribe in a statement. “The concern for the safety of the participants and spectators both has prompted the race officials and sponsors to cancel the event for this season.”

“We are disappointed that we have to forego the event this year but look forward to 2013 with conditions hopefully more favorable,” he added.

We are sorry to see the event cancelled as well. We know that our community of businesses and resedents were looking forward to the fun and excitement this brings. But as stated by Mr. Cloutier, the safety of everyone is more important! Hoping 2013 will be successful!
