AuGres to host art and wine walk in August
AuGRES — KinderPlatz Park in AuGres is going to be hit with a little class when the first Art, Wine and a Park event is held Aug. 12 and 13.
City Manager Patricia Killingbeck said she hopes the event will bring a large number of people into the downtown AuGres area.
“We want people to come to the area and enjoy the things we have to offer,” she said.
The Art, Wine and a Park is a two-day event. Friday, Aug. 12 will feature an art show from 4 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and wine tasting from 7 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. Another art show will be held Saturday, Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Tickets for the wine tasting event will cost $20 per person.
Killingbeck said the city was inspired to host an art and wine walk by similar events hosted by other communities in the area.
“We saw how much success other communities were having and we thought we could do the same thing here,” she said. “Our goal is always to try and get people into our community.”
Killingbeck said several wine vendors will be on hand for wine sampling, but final details are still being finished.
“We have several different wineries that wanted to be involved,” she said. “We should have a good turnout.”
Killingbeck said a special license to provide alcohol is not needed at events like Art, Wine and a Park.
“The different wineries have their own licenses,” she said. “What people will be doing is wine sampling and tasting.”
Killingbeck said that the city is also encouraging anyone who wants to enter their art projects to come out.
“We are looking to have a mix of professionals and amateurs,” she said. “We have even contacted some local colleges to see if they had students who wanted to enter pieces they have done.”
