AuGres planning to host art and wine show this summer
AuGRES — The city of AuGres may become a little more sophisticated this summer.
At their monthly meeting, the AuGres city commissioners agreed to host an art and wine show sometime during the summer.
City Manager Patricia Killingbeck said a date for a show is not yet planned, but she added that the show will be held sometime between June and August in Kinder Platz Park in downtown AuGres.
“This is something (the city) has always wanted to do,” she said. “We wanted to do it for years, but we never had the time to plan it.”
Killingbeck said the idea to start a art and wine show comes from examples set by other communities.
“Other communities around this area have shows like this and we wanted one of our own,” she said.
In September, Kinder Platz Park hosted the AuGres Bridal Show Killingbeck said that the show was such a success that one of the event organizers suggested the city host an art and wine show.
“(The organizer) was encouraged by what the park looked like and its location,” Killngbeck said. “So, as of now, our plans are to use this park again for this show.”
Although a number of details are yet to be finalized, Killingbeck said the show will be a pay-to-attend event.
“We will, most likely, use funds gathered from the event towards recreation,” she said. “We would like to upgrade some equipment and play equipment for all of the city’s parks.”
Including Kinder Platz Park, AuGres is home to a number of other parks, Killingbeck said. She said that AuGres has small parks around the city and a soccer facility and a park next to City Park Campground.
