AuGres-Sims drama club prepares for musical comedy
AuGRES — Students at AuGres-Sims High School are practicing nearly every day after class to prepare for the drama club’s next show, “Just Another High School Musical.”
Director Barb Richardson said the 11 student cast members would be playing themselves in the performance, in which they must try to put on a musical show without the director, who has abandoned it after no one showed up at rehearsal.
“It’s chaos,” Richardson said. “There’s no set and nothing going on. They’re supposed to open with a musical number and the director is gone.”
The cast consists of students from sixth through 12th grades, including two seniors, Kevin Schutte and Rebekah Pauly. There are also three members of the stage crew.
Richardson said there are 11 musical numbers throughout the show, which are directed by Angie Anthony.
“She keeps everyone on time,” Richardson said. “She’s an incredible lady.”
There are three performances planned at the stage in the AuGres-Sims gym, one each on April 20-22. For April 20-21, the show is at 8 p.m., and on April 22 the show is at 3 p.m. Admission is $5, and Richardson said all proceeds would go into the drama department to help finance this and its next show.
This is the 14th production held at the AuGres-Sims high school.
