Arenac board approves new contract with employee relations director
STANDISH — Arenac County has a new contract in place with the man that handles their labor issues.
At its Nov. 23 regular meeting, the Arenac County Board of Commissioners approved a one-year agreement with Bill Borushko at a rate of $1,600 per month. According to board Chairman Raymond Daniels, the county’s previous contract with Borushko, which currently pays him $1,800 per month, was due to expire on June 30, 2011.
“That will save us a little bit of money,” Daniels said.
Daniels said Borushko is in charge of handling any employee relations issues for the county, such as grievances and contracts. He also said with six union contracts due to expire at the end of this year, it was important for the county to retain Borushko’s services and pay him a monthly salary.
“We will be right back in negotiating at the end of this year,” he said. “He may have been on an hourly rate if we didn’t have contracts to work out.”
Daniels also said Borushko has been instrumental in dealing with employee health insurance issues and trying to get the best possible insurance package for county employees.
“The insurance stuff isn’t going away,” he said. “It takes a while when you want to change companies.”
According to Daniels, Borushko has been employed with the county for about five years.
