Arenac County Fund Auction raises $7,833

AuGRES — An auction held at Dunleavey’s Eatery & Pub raised a total of $7,833 for the Arenac County Fund.

Money for the fund was raised from the auction, a 50-50 raffle, donations from the Arenac County Fund board, and donations from people in attendance.

Diane Morley, chairperson for the Arenac County Fund, said the auction went well and everyone in attendance had a good time.

“This is a fun event that has a lot of action,” she said. “There is delicious food, and a good time was had by all.”

Dunleavey’s Eatery & Pub has hosted the auction the past eight years and was filled with people looking to bid on 80 items.

“We had 53 bidders, and we are pleased with that,” she said. “We sold everything that we had.”

The Arenac County Fund also distributed grants to local organizations and schools. Morley said that the Arenac County Fund has given away more than $80,000 in the last 10 years.

“(We) were pleased to announce our total grant awards for 2010 total is $12,000, plus (an additional) $4,500 in scholarships (given) to nine graduates from the three Arenac County high schools,” she said.

Those receiving grants at the auction were, Sterling Elementary School, which received $1,000; Northeast Arts Center received $1,000; Good News Ministry received $1,000; National Wild Turkey Federation received $500; Resurrection of the Lord Catholic Church, Christian service received $500; Christmas4Kids received $500 from the Arenac County Fund and $500 from the Bay County Community Foundation; Standish-Sterling High School received $500; and AuGres-Sims and Arenac Eastern received $1,000 for their combined teen summit.

Morley said that those looking to donate still have time.

“This is the perfect time of the year to make a donation to the Endowed Fund, to take advantage of the tax incentives or to honor someone special in your life or a bequest in their memory,” she said.
