Au GRES — The Knoll View Golf Course will host the Arenac Community Fund’s 12th annual charity golf outing on May 17.

The cost for a team of four is $400, or $100 for individual golfers who will be placed with a team. Corporate team sponsorships are $500, which include a team of four and a company hole sign. All proceeds from the event will go toward the ACF’s endowment funds, which in turn go toward grants given out throughout Arenac County. ACF Committee Chairman Garrett Geer said the outing is scheduled to begin around 9:30 a.m. and would run through the rest of the day.

“It’s a phenomenal event,” Geer said. “The golfers show up in the morning and get coffee and donuts to get started. We go through a short presentation where we will recognize Forward (Corporation) for their ongoing support of the ACF.”

Tee-off is at 10 a.m., he said, and the golf outing will include lunch and a shrimp barbecue dinner with keg beer. There will also be prizes and contests at specific holes, and Geer said 18-hole prize vouchers for area golf courses is one way that the other area golf courses will participate. The golf outing rotates between the Pine View, Knoll View, and Huron Pines golf courses.

“They often do other things, like providing items for the golfer goodie bags,” he said. “They typically field teams for each outing as well, and certainly they help us by giving us their course for the day. We take full advantage of their facilities, as we not only serve lunch at the turn but we also do a full dinner event.”

The dinner is also when the ACF hands out its prizes, which are generally donated by local businesses. Geer said Richardson Chevrolet will be giving away a 2013 Buick LaCrosse for a hole-in-one on an as-yet-to-be-determined par-3 hole.

Geer said the golf outing typically raises between $7,500 and $9,000 each year with around 18-20 teams, though this year they are hoping to see 24 or more teams on the green.

The registration cutoff is May 14. For more information, call Geer at 989-397-3959 or Dale Weiss at 989-903-5272, or visit their Facebook page at www.facebook.com/arenac.community.funds.

“We greatly appreciate our golf course partners and all of our sponsors and players who step up to make this fundraiser so successful.” Geer said. “This expands ACF’s ability to provide grants back into the communities of Arenac County to support everything from youth programs to emergency services to health and recreation initiatives. Our goal is simple: to grow our endowments in order to grow our opportunity to grant funds to enhance the lives of the citizens of Arenac County. Who knew that golfing could have such an impact?”
