STANDISH — The Arenac Choraleers have scheduled their spring concert “Joy in the Morning!” for Sunday, May 6 at Standish-Sterling Central High School.

The event is taking place at 7 p.m. that day. Tickets are $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens and students, and $3 for children 5 to 12 years old. The Northeast Michigan Arts Council is co-sponsoring the concert alongside the Standish-Sterling Community Education Department.

The chorus is scheduled to perform under the direction of Arenac County resident Devin Chisholm, with piano accompaniment by another local resident, Mark Lundgren. Gail Schmidt, Arts Council director, said The Valley String Ensemble would also provide accompaniment on about half of the songs performed.

Together the groups will perform songs ranging from classical arrangements to gospel to contemporary music over the course of approximately two hours. During a 15- to 20-minute intermission, a musical interlude featuring The Valley String Ensemble’s own selection and Choraleer members is scheduled.

“The audience really appreciates choral music in this community,” Schmidt said. “It should be a nice evening of music.”

The 60-member chorus features members from Arenac, Bay, Gladwin, Iosco, Ogemaw, and Saginaw counties, and they will be hosting an after-party once the concert has concluded to meet with patrons.

Advance tickets are available at the Standish Art Center by calling 989-846-9331, or by visiting Wilson’s Cheese Shop in Pinconning. Schmidt said this is the 32nd annual spring concert from the Choraleers.
