STANDISH TWP. — Law enforcement officials searched an alleged meth lab late Sunday night in Standish Township, arresting one individual in the process.

Billy Mack Willis, 34, of Standish, was arrested at the house in Standish Township, and was arraigned in 81st District Court Monday morning on a charge of meth possession. Since meth possession is a felony, Willis is facing up to 10 years in prison and an assessed fine up to $15,000. He is currently lodged in the county jail at a $25,000 bail.

According to Sgt. Bill Veltman with the multi-county Strike Team Investigative Narcotics Group (STING), additional charges are likely as the investigation continues.

Veltman said the Arenac County Sheriff’s Department received information on meth activity at an address on Lentz Road.

“Based on the information they developed enough information for a search warrant for meth activity,” Veltman said.

The Sheriff’s Department then contacted STING for assistance, since meth lab investigations require medical response teams and certified officers to deal with hazardous material, Veltman said.

Veltman said alleged meth lab equipment was discovered at the scene along with Willis. Two children, an 11-year-old and a 14-year-old, were found living in the house, alongside a visiting woman and two more children: a 3-year-old and an 18-month-old.

All four children were taken by the Department of Human Services for an evaluation. Veltman said it is standard protocol.

Veltman said law enforcement is now awaiting the results of lab work, but added the investigation is continuing.
