AuGRES — An accident early Friday morning between a minivan and a semi truck in AuGres has left the driver of the van hospitalized.

According to Arenac County Undersheriff Don McIntyre, Jerry Link of AuGres was driving a Mercury Villager minivan southbound on Mackinac Street when he allegedly ran a stop sign at the US-23 intersection. A semi truck going eastbound on US-23 then struck Link’s vehicle at approximately 6:29 a.m.

Link was taken to St. Mary’s of Michigan Standish Hospital, where McIntyre said he is in serious condition. The semi driver, Michael Wolfgang of Sterling, was said to be uninjured.

McIntyre said both men were wearing seatbelts, and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the accident. The accident is still under investigation to determine if any citations need to be issued, he added.
