AGS steal win in OT from Hillman
AUGRES — AuGres-Sims overcame a cold shooting night and a six-point fourth quarter deficit Friday, coming from behind to hand Hillman a 45-42 overtime defeat.
The victory was critical to the Wolverines' hopes of staying alive in the North Star League title chase, but despite the Tigers bringing a three-game losing streak into the game, it the victory didn't come easily.
"It was pretty ugly," said AE coach Gordie Ostrander. "We missed probably 10 layups. But our full court pressure finally paid off. We got some turnovers and we finally made some shots."
The Wolverines outscored Hillman 11-5 in the fourth quarter and might have won it earlier if they had made more than the 4-of-10 they shot at the free throw line in the final eight minutes.
But once into the extra session, Emily Lutz scored four points as the Wolverines hung on for the win.
AGS started strong, taking an 11-6 lead as Lutz had eight points in the opening quarter. Hillman outscored the Wolverines 26-15 in the middle quarters as Randi Edgar scored nine of her 13 points during the Tigers' run.
Lutz led AGS (6-3, 3-1 NSL) with 17 points and five assists. Kelsey Heinrich added 10 points and four steals while Adriane Swaffield had eight points and 10 rebounds.
Hillman dropped to 3-4 (2-2) with the loss.
