AuGRES — For the second straight year the AuGres-Sims Band helped the AuGres Cruisers Car Club during its annual cruise and car show.
And for the second straight year, the Cruisers are returning the favor with a grant exceeding $2,000.
“We used to have to search every year for someone to give us a hand,” said AuGres Cruisers chairman Dennis Nixon. “They (band members) take admission at the gate (of the AuGres City Park) and also at the building (AuGres City Park Pavilion). They help with concessions.
“We couldn’t do it without them. They do such a good job,” Nixon added.
He says since the car club only has about 12 members, the 30 band students who volunteered, both this year and last year, ensure a smooth weekend for the club and more than 400 people entering their vehicles in the cruise and show.
“We said ‘you know, if someone steps up to help us, we’re going to give them the money (for gate fees),’” Nixon said, adding the amount donated to the band was $2,200.
