TWINING — The Arenac Eastern school board is discussing a proposal to have Bay-Arenac Intermediate School District Superintendent Michael Dewey cover the superintendent position there beginning July 1.

Outgoing Superintendent Bill Grusecki said the board had a special meeting scheduled April 23 to approve the proposal, and it has also posted a position for a K-12 principal to fulfill some of his other duties.

Grusecki said the application deadline is May 1, and the board would select interview candidates at its meeting May 14.

“They hope to have someone on board by June 1,” Grusecki said. “The new principal can work with me, since I’ll still be here for a few weeks.”

Dewey’s position as the official AE superintendent is planned by the board to be an interim solution until it decides what to do long-term, Grusecki said. Dewey would likely be handling duties at the district a few days a month, he added.

Grusecki accepted a superintendent position in the Southgate school district in March, effective July 1.
