AE girls smash Owen-Gage, prepare for NSL showdown against Posen

ARENAC EASTERN — Arenac Eastern warmed up for its North Star League showdown with Posen by defeating Owen-Gage in a non-league contest on Monday, 46-21.

While it wasn't exactly a thing of beauty, AE coach Butch Beckham said the Eagles did enough to get the job done.

"We played well enough to win, but you could tell we were looking ahead a bit," he said. "We got through it; we didn't shoot very well. It was just one of those games."

The Eagles had 34 steals on defense and held Owen-Gage's leading scorer without a point.

Chelsea Dery led AE with 20 points, five steals and six rebounds. Briana Dery had 10 points and 11 steals and Erin Ecker added eight points and eight steals.

The Eagles (12-2) host Posen (12-2) on Thursday. AE is 8-2 in league play while Posen is 10-0.
