AE boosters hosting 12th annual three-on-three tournament

TWINING — People looking to lace up their sneakers and hit the court for some three-on-three basketball competition will get their chance March 22 at Arenac Eastern.

Tournament organizer Judy Nelson said the tournament, the 12th annual one, is a fundraiser for the AE Booster Club. She said dozens of teams compete each year.

“Usually we get anywhere from 35 to 45 teams,” she said.

There are male and female divisions divided into six age groups, Nelson said. Teams can have three or four members, she said.

“The winning teams get championship T-shirts, and boy they play hard for those T- shirts,” she said.

The tournament is double elimination, and there will also be a break for a three-point shootout during the day, according to Nelson.

Games will begin at 8:30 a.m. for the 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13 age divisions, Nelson said. The other divisions, 14-15, 16-18 and 18 and older will stagger the start times throughout the morning, she said. Teams can begin signing in at 8 a.m.

Nelson said teams that register by March 14 pay $60, and for registering early they will receive an Arenac Eastern three-on-three T-shirt. Teams will be able to register after March 14, Nelson said.

“They can still enter, they just have to pay $80 and they don’t get a T-shirt,” she said.

Checks for the tournament should be made out to the AE Booster Club, Nelson said. For more information, contact Nelson at 989-295-3451 or Peggy Nelson at 989-297-1774.
