STANDISH — The Michigan Department of Corrections (DOC) isn’t waiting for community appeals at the “Save Standish Max” press conference on June 12 before it starts clearing out the prison, as Thursday morning the DOC removed 149 prisoners from the facility.

Standish Maximum Correctional Facility (SMF) Administrative Assistant Rebecca Bailey said she was unable to comment which type of prisoners were being transported via bus out of the facility or where the inmates were going, but did say they were all being moved to the same facility.

The action started early at SMF this morning.

“We started transporting the property (of prisoners) at 4 a.m.,” Bailey said. “All the property has to be searched on arrival (at the new facility) for contraband.”

DOC personnel were parked at the entrance of the prison driveway for additional security. State vehicles also hauled the prisoners’ property.
