Board hosts quasquicentennial kickoff
ARENAC COUNTY — The Arenac County Board of Commissioners have organized a 125th anniversary kickoff celebration at the Olde Courthouse and Masonic Lodge in Omer on April 11. If interested in attending, please RSVP the commissioners’ office at 989-846-6188. Scheduled events** are as follows:
10:30 a.m. –
Reception of guests and registration on the front lawn.
10:45 a.m. –
Welcome message by Omer Mayor Alice Sproule
Reading of Public Act of 1883, which officially created Arenac County by Judge Ronald Bergeron of Arenac County’s 23rd Circuit Court in Standish.
11 a.m. –
Opening of a ceremonial session of the Arenac County Board of Commissioners by Board Chairman Raymond Daniels.
Recital of the “Pledge of Allegiance” by all in attendance.
A reading of early county board minutes by Ricky Rockwell, Arenac County Clerk.
A history of the Arenac County Flag and Circuit Court by Judge Ronald Bergeron.
A short history of the Omer Courthouse and Masonic Hall by Walter Fales, Chairman of the Arenac County Historical Society.
Comments remembering the old Standish Courthouse by Marian Cardinal.
Presentation of “Why I like living in Arenac County” essay contest winners by Roberta House-Forshee and Jane Danjin.
Honoring of the oldest man and woman in Arenac County by Raymond Daniels.
Comments by individual county commissioners, current and former county officers.
Adjournment of ceremonial session by Raymond Daniels.
12:30 p.m. –
Luncheon in the lower level of the Omer Courthouse and Masonic Lodge sponsored by the Arenac County Economic Development Corporation.
