I attended a basketball game this evening at the Surline Middle School and I was extremely disappointed that the National Anthem wasn't done before the start of the game. I know I wasn't the only one that was bothered by this. Someone was told they didn't do it at 7th and 8th grade games. I'm sorry it shouldn't matter the age or grade. The National Anthem being played at the start of any and every game is a tradition and it is expected by American's everywhere. Far too many schools are failing to do so because they're worried about offending someone and I surely hope that isn't the reason for it not being played. I proudly tell those that complain that the Pledge of Allegiance is no longer done within their school system that it is still done at ours every morning! These are the ages we as adults instill these important traditions within our children. We should be proud to play the National Anthem at all our games. It's the American way! As I sat amongst two wounded veteran's at the Cheboygan game last weekend the honor and pride they carried in their faces as the National Anthem played words could not express. It is after all what they fought for, right? I end this by saying... "Please rise for the National Anthem!"
