There are currently 103 ports in Michigan that are part of the MPC. Killingbeck said that near by areas include East Tawas, Harrisville, Oscoda, and areas along the Saginaw River.

She added that the goal of the MPC is for small ports across Michigan to come unite.

“Joining the (MPC) helps all of these ports get together and inform the public,” she said.

According to the resolution passed by the city council to join the MPC, AuGres is home to a recreational harbor, a harbor of refuge and a commercial port, meeting the definition of a port community.

The resolution also states that AuGres is committed to developing its port in ways that will develop the long-term goals of the MPC has six months to submit its resolution to the MPC.

AuGres has to submit and inventory of local and regional assets, resources and needs that the community can provide and working water front experience for AuGres port businesses, the resolution said.

Killingbeck said that AuGres still needs to submit its resolution to the MPC But, she added, almost everything else in the resolution is completed.

“We have to let them (MPC) know what types of assets we have here,” she said. “When (the public) comes in we will be able to inform them of what types of facilities we have, like our parks.”
